The records consist of memoranda, cables, intelligence reports, correspondence, and special studies which constituted the working files of President John F. Kennedy's special assistant for national security affairs, McGeorge Bundy. Documents in this file originated in the offices of Bundy and his assistants, Walt W. Rostow and Carl Kaysen, in the various executive departments and agencies, and in diplomatic and military posts around the world.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917, to Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy of Brookline, Massachusetts. John Kennedy, the second of nine children, attended Choate Academy (1932-1935), Princeton University (1935-36), Harvard College (1936-40), and Stanford Business School (1941).
